For medicine, including Oriental Medicine and Western Medicine, Agarwood is considered a source of precious medicine.

In Eastern medicine, Agarwood is recognized as a spicy, bitter, slightly sweet medicinal substance, which has the following effects:

Reduce miasma: It is often used in the house to reduce toxic gases and is often worn calambac to prevent miasma. In some areas, especially in the Phu Yen - Khanh Hoa area, calambac are usually covered in a thin cloth pocket to wear in the neck as a "protector". Children under 1 year wear 2 strings, 1 to 5 years wear 3 strings, adults wear 5 strings.

Use as an antiseptic and anti-malarial drug: In Cambodia, according to the doctors Menaut and Phana Douk, people often use calambac, Agarwood and ivory with cold water to drink. 2-3 times a day, each time drink from 3mm to 1/10 of a tael.

Abdominal pills: According to Dr. Sallet noted that the drug had a very good medication for abdominal pain, including: Agarwood 2, mauve with heather, nuts, bark Magnolia, Sa Nhon, Can Khuong in 2 and a half cups The remaining 9mm  divided into 2, drinks twice a day will make the abdomen cramp out.

Treatment of urinary tract: It is common to wear calambac in the assembly area to treat urinary tract.

According to Oriental Medicine, calambac used to treat nausea caused by deciduous, causing chronic dissipation, obesity, abdominal pain, vomiting, asthma, shortness of breath, cause. Grind from 3mm to 1/10 of a tael, depending on the age, to mix with water or put into boiling water to drink.

Agarwood has antibiotic properties, strong antimicrobial (healing, wound healing) and healing for some cardiovascular diseases (chest pain, heart failure), respiratory disease (asthma) neurological disorders (sedation, insomnia, analgesia, calmness), gastrointestinal (abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea), urinary tract disease

Dr. Hsueh-Kung Lin at the University of Oklahoma in the United States claims that Agarwood can be a cure for people suffering from bladder cancer.

New research on the medicinal properties of Agarwood Vietnam

According to the study of scientists at the Institute of Natural Medicine, University of Toyama, Japan, Agarwood sampled from Vietnam has a very valuable medicinal effect on the nervous system.

"A new sesquiterpene compound from Vietnamese Agarwood and its induction effect on expression of neuroendocrine-derived mRNA nutrients in vitro

Agarwood, one of the valuable products in tropical forest, is a highly aromatic wood and is used in traditional etiquette as well as a sedative in traditional medicine in Asia.

We extracted 70% EtOH from Agarwood of Vietnam, showing a significant induction effect with brain-derived neuroendocrine (BDNF *) mRNA expression in rat neurons.

The new sesquiterpenoid compounds, (4R, 5R, 7R) -1 (10) -spirovetiven-11-ol-2-one, were isolated from agarwood strongly influencing the expression of the neuroendocrine factor Brain root (BDNF) - exon III-V mRNA fragment. "

* The brain-derived neurotrophic factor, also known as BDNF, is a member of the neurodegenerative group of growth factors, which is involved in neurodevelopmental growth factors.

BDNF affects certain neurons of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system, helping to support the survival of existing neurons, encouraging the development and differentiation of new nerves and synapses cells.

In the brain, BDNF works in the cerebral cortex, and the frontal cerebrum - an important area for learning, memory, and higher-order thinking. It is also shown in the retina, motor neurons, kidneys, saliva, and prostate.

BDNF is important for long-term memory and is one of the most active components of the neurotransmitter, chemicals that stimulate and regulate neurons.
